At the age of 30 Steve was appointed the youngest CEO to restructure one of Australia’s leading indigenous charitable organisations. With a new management team and vision, Steve has been steering Gumala towards an ambitious growth strategy built on expanding members’ services as well as identifying new commercial opportunities. Today Gumala Aboriginal Corporation and its subsidiaries directly employ over 100 staff with more than half of the workforce from an indigenous background. Working closely with Gumala’s key stakeholders, Steve is instigating unprecedented advances in economic well-being, health, education, cultural identity and employment initiatives for the benefit of the three language groups who form Gumala. Steve has a professional background in business management, local government and the not-for-profit sector. |
Francois Langlois
General Manager

Originally from Mauritius, Francois moved to Australia in 1997. With a background in business management, Francois spent 10 years in the public sector before starting employment with Gumala Aboriginal Corporation in January 2008. With a lot of drive and motivation, Francois is committed to making a difference and ensuring that GAC meets its objectives and provides superior service to the Gumala Traditional Owners. His vision is to ensure that Gumala's Traditional Owners obtain the maximum benefits from mining royalties received. |
Linda McCarthy
Finance & Administration Manager

Previously Linda has worked for other Not For Profit organisations. She joined our team in August 2009 as our Finance and Administration Manager. Linda prides herself in devoting her time both to our members and our staff. She is dedicated to ‘making a difference’ within Gumala Aboriginal Corporation and contributes to our team with a wealth of knowledge, a positive attitude and exceptional motivation. |

Jennifer Viviers

Jenny commenced her employment with GAC in February 2008. As the Executive Assistant, Jenny primarily assists the Chief Executive, GAC Management and the GAC Board of Directors. Jenny’s main goal is to ensure that GAC functions efficiently, as well as to assist management by means of administrative support. Jenny arrived in Tom Price in September 2006 with her family. Originally from South Africa, she has developed a passion for the Pilbara. Jenny's dream is to see all of Gumala's exciting plans moving forward and coming to fruition for the benefit of GAC members. |
Greg Tucker
Liaison Officer

Greg is a Traditional Owner from the Banjima language group. He was Chairman of the Governing Committee during the early days of Gumala and joined Gumala as our Liaison Officer. Greg has a passion for the land and keeping the culture active. |
Wendy Walker
Project Specialist

Wendy commenced employment with Gumala in April 2008, and her roles have progressed from Receptionist, PA to the General Manager, Office Manager, to her current position as Projects Specialist. Wendy worked for not-for-profit-agencies for a period of eight years.Her background in assisting people with disabilities or diverse needs fits in with her overall desire to help people gain the best they can out of life, for themselves and their community. Wendy believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to try to achieve their dreams. |
Sharon Morley
Secretarial Support Officer

Sharon has substantial experience in management support roles, and was previously employed for 7 years as the PA to the Headmaster at Hamilton Boys’ High School in New Zealand. Sharon has settled in Tom Price with her family and believes that the strong community spirit within local communities in the Pilbara ensures that everyone who makes the Pilbara their home is made to feel welcome. Through her role as Secretarial Support Officer, Sharon is keen to make lasting and rewarding contributions at Gumala Aboriginal Corporation. |
Joyce Gust

Joyce has spent many years living and working in the North West of Western Australia, including 7 years in Karratha and 7 years in Carnarvon. As part of her role as a Mentor for Gumala's Indigenous Trainees, Joyce is passing on her knowledge and experience to our youth, building up their confidence, nurturing and guiding them and helping them reach their potential. Joyce is a Gumala Member, and believes it is vital that training and education be at the forefront of our young people's minds as they strive for better employment outcomes and better standards of living. |
Peter Caruso

Joining the Gumala team in late-2009, Peter's professional background is in journalism - including four years as a journalist and editor for a Perth-based publisher of resource magazines. Prior to his career in journalism, Peter worked as an English Teacher in Europe. Born in Geraldton, which is where he grew up, Peter holds university qualifications in business and journalism. He aims to use his current role to champion the achievements and ambitions of Gumala and its members. |

Liz was appointed to the position in September 2008. Having grown up in Port Hedland (where she lived for 21 years), Liz has had a rich employment background - including management roles - spanning the Pilbara region, the Goldfields and Perth. Liz is focused on ensuring that Gumala’s MSU operations run smoothly and efficiently. |
Ronwyn James
Senior Members' Services Officer

Ronwyn is a Traditional Owner from the Innawonga Language Group. She’s been "home” since 1998, after spending most of her childhood in Onslow. Ronwyn joined Gumala in 2000 as Receptionist, before gradually moved up through the ranks to her current position in the MSU. Her goal in the MSU is to provide superior service to our members in the delivery of programs that benefit our members and their families. |
Rebekah Nona
Members' Services Officer

Rebekah joined Gumala’s MSU in mid-2009 and has become an integral part of the MSU team. She and her family have lived in Tom Price since the early 1990s, when her grandfather relocated to the area to work on the railway lines in the Pilbara region. Rebekah gets a great deal of personal satisfaction from assisting Gumala’s Members. She continues to witness positive initiatives within the MSU, as well as positive outcomes received by the Members on a daily basis.

Vicky Honey
Finance Officer

Vicky was appointed by Gumala Aboriginal Corporation to the position of Finance Officer in mid-2010. Vicky holds a wealth of experience in Finance / Administration, which she gained in her homeland of New Zealand. Her employment experience includes five years for New Zealand Inland Revenue. She also holds qualifications in Human Resources and Business Management. Aside from her employment role at Gumala, Vicky is looking forward to learning and embracing Aboriginal culture. |

Carol Nicholson
Senior Customer Service Officer

Carol began working for Gumala in 2009. Prior to that, she worked as a receptionist in a Tom Price daycare centre for about two years. Originally from South Africa, Carol worked for South Africa’s largest stainless steel producer, Columbus Stainless. She and her family then moved to Botswana (her husband worked for De Beers diamonds). They immigrated to Australia in 2005. Carol believes strongly in providing a professional service to our members and treating everyone with respect and dignity. |
Janice Garbutt
Receptionist

Janice has worked at GAC’s always busy reception desk since July 2009. She is well-known in the local community, having lived in Tom Price since the late 1980s. She previously owned a locally famous food business in Tom Price, "Jan's Burgers", for 4 years. Prior to that she was employed at Tom Price’s local service station for some 7 years. Janice’s key focus is to provide the best possible service and a friendly face for Gumala’s Members. |

Tadam grew up in Port Hedland, though he has many relatives around Tom Price. He came to work at Gumala and has been ‘The voice of Gumala Radio’ since 2005. Tadam is passionate about his music and giving his listeners what they want to hear. |

Teeharnee Robinson

Teeharnee joined Gumala in late-2008, has received on-the-job training and has combined full-time employment at Gumala with part-time studies. In early 2010 she completed Certificate III in Business Administration at TAFE. A Gumala member, Teeharnee was born in Perth but spent much her childhood living in the Youngaleena and Wakathuni communities. She moved back to Perth to complete her high school education. Teeharnee aims to apply the range of skills and knowledge she is accumulating to move her career forward and make a range of rewarding contributions at Gumala. |

Leon Nokes
Mechanical Apprentice, GEPL

Leon grew up in Port Hedland and is a Gumala Member. Since commencing his Mechanical Apprenticeship in late 2009, he has begun fulfilling one of his dreams – to become a qualified mechanic. Leon is currently based at Gumala Contracting’s Tom Price facility, and travels to Perth periodically to fulfill the study components of his apprenticeship at TAFE. |
Lexi Drage

Born in Canberra, Lexi has grown up in Western Australia - including Perth, Mount Magnet, Port Hedland, and now Tom Price. Lexi began her two-year traineeship in early 2010. She loves working with children, so her day care role is proving to be thoroughly enjoyable. |
